Washington Library Tour

Join us as we tour some of the Library's special collections with the Head Librarian and learn more about the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington at Mount Vernon (3600 Mount Vernon Memorial Parkway, about half-mile from the main entrance of Mount Vernon). The library, opened in 2013, is a leading center to promote scholarship about Washington and his time. While it is not normally open for public tours it is open to researchers by appointment. Given its extensive and rare holdings, this library is a major resource for scholars, students, and all those interested in George Washington, colonial America, and the Revolutionary and founding eras.

Optional: For those who want to talk a bit more history (or anything else!), let’s meet at noon at the General’s Canteen (the food court near Mount Vernon’s main entrance).

Important Notes: At the request of the library, this program is open to AHS members and their guests only. The maximum is 25 PARTICIPANTS. The cut-off for registering is September 3, as names must be provided to the library for security purposes one week in advance.
