The Alexandria Historical Society Grants are competitive awards to support historical research and interpretation projects relating to Alexandria and Northern Virginia history. Originally the grants were established to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of AHS in 2024. In each year since then, AHS has offered a small number of grants and held events where our Grantees describe their work for Alexandria's history-curious.
This year (2025-2026) the Grantees will be presenting summarized versions of their work on Wednesday, October 28th.
Jenny Waters, Lee-Fendall House Museum and Gardens
will be discussing their new exhibit At Home with Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee, early resident of the house, Revolutionary War hero, 9th Govenor of Virginia
Elizabeth Reese, Woodlawn & Frank Lloyd Wright’s Pope-Leighey House will be discussing their new exhibit Quakers at Woodlawn: Friends Gather Here.
Mark Adams, Alexandria Citizens Band
will be discussing their research into the Band's history and the concert they produced of pieces played throughout the band's 114-years history.
Note: The 2026-2027 Grant Competition will begin in late October. At that time we will post the specifics of the process, available funding, and deadlines. Members will be notified automatically. If you are not a member but would like to be notified about our next round of Grants, please let us know so that we can write to you directly.
